| CHELEM is an information tool that facilitates the analysis of national economic performance relative to the global economy. CHELEM consists of 3 modules. CHELEM has information for 82 of the world's most prominent countries, representing 99% of world trade and 96% of world production as well as information on regions. The modules are as follows: |
 |
International Trade Contains the bilateral flow of all traded goods since 1967 (1985 on the CD-ROM version). The data are harmonised in a framework covering the entire world. All goods are detailed in either 71 INT-CHELEM product categories, 43 INT-GTAP categories or 147 INT-ISIC accounts. For each year and product category, the trade between different geographical zones (countries or group of countries) can be shown in a harmonised matrix and illustrated graphically.
Gross Domestic Product Contains economic aggregates since 1960 spanning the entire world, covering the 94 elementary zones and the 204 independent countries or statistical territories. The series relate to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) presented in three different ways:
· In International value, i.e. by converting flows expressed in national prices by the current exchange rates;
· International volume, i.e. by converting flows expressed in constant national prices in respect to the base year by the exchange rate corresponding to the base year (1995);
· PPP volume, i.e. in a system where prices are constant through time and space, by converting flows expressed in constant national prices in respect to the base year (1995) by the rate corresponding to the Purchasing Power Parity.
These GDP series are complemented with total population series (millions of inhabitants at mid-year) and nominal exchange rate series for independent countries.
Balance of payments Contains information on the flows of the Balance of Payments since 1967. This data covers the entire world and, hence, concerns 189 countries as well as the 94 elementary zones identified by the common classification and international organisations. They are displayed in a classification aggregated in 68 credit accounts, 68 debit accounts, 70 balance accounts and 7 specific balance accounts, presenting the main headings of the classification in 247 accounts, recommended by the International Monetary Fund in the fifth manual of the Balance of Payments of 1993.
The data used is essentially the primary data provided by the IMF. However, alternative sources (notably data coming from the countries' central banks) are also used in certain countries like Taiwan or Cuba.
Integral software allows you to search the data using your own criteria and analyse your results. The information can be downloaded to most formats.
CHELEM is available on CD-ROM and the internet.
