BEL-FIRST is a database containing detailed financial information on 390,000 Belgian companies and 7,000 companies in Luxembourg. Summaries for a further 700,000 Belgian businesses are also available.

The detailed information includes: contact information (including phone and fax numbers), activities, 180 financial items (which can be displayed in varying levels of detail) and 105 ratios (including the ratios devised by Professors Ooghe and Wymeersch), directors, ownership and subsidiaries. Images of scanned reports are also available. In addition to the existing ratios you can also create your own that you can display in the reports and also use in your searches and analyses.
The summary information for the smaller entities includes contact details, activity, turnover and number of employees, shareholders, subsidiaries and directors.
Each company with detailed accounts is part of a default peer group based on its activity codes; integral graphs illustrate its position in this peer group. A company tree diagram instantly illustrates the structure of the group.
The software lets you search for companies that comply with your own criteria. You can combine as many conditions as you like and you can use full Boolean logic (and, or, not). When you have identified a group of companies you can compare them against each other and create both graphs and tables. You can also analyse the results of your search in a simple matrix plotting the companies by the criteria of your choice. For example, you can view a group of companies by region and activity and plot the results graphically. Information can be downloaded into most packages.
Further features include: an Addin function that facilitates the analysis of "live" data from BEL-FIRST within Excel/Access and BvDEP’s matching software, which allows you to compare your own database records with those that also occur in BEL-FIRST and update or enhance your data accordingly.
As the software on BEL-FIRST is so flexible you can use it for many different research projects including: detailed financial analysis and credit risk assessment, corporate finance, venture capital and M&A research, sales and marketing including feasibility assessment and generating data for campaigns plus academic study and teaching.
BEL-FIRST is available on CD/DVD-ROM on the internet and as an intranet feed.
